If they had, Leiberman would have pulled a Nader and he and Lamont would have split the vote, the result being a Republican Senator, and the dems not getting control of the Senate. As it was, many Republicans felt there was a chance of Leiberman switching parties, hence their strong support. It is not often that one party can get split in half and still come out on top. <BR/><BR/>As I said at the top, the Dems were damned lucky.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
