60 Minutes interview of President Sarkozy

Just great. Leslie Stahl deliberately pissed off the first pro-American President of France in more than 30 years by asking him stupid questions about his personal life. Sarkozy quite justifiably took off his microphone and walked off the stage.

Leslie Stahl was arrogant and offensive. We can only hope that Sarkozy will be thick-skinned enough to dismiss her as the trivial minded twit she has shown herself to be. One hopes that CBS will attempt to salvage some shred of its credibility by dismissing her as well. I think the very least that can be expected of CBS management, beside the dismissal of Stahl, is to publicly apologize to President Sarkozy for the uncouthness of their former employee.

Did you really think that Leslie Stahl was going to do a hard hitting intelligent interview? Do you really think anyone watches 60 Miutes to hear about French economic and foriegn policy? Leslie did her job. She got Sarkozy to take off his mike and walk out, just like countless other 60 Minute interviewees have done. Big ratings, people talking about it.

    Heck of a job, Leslie.

  2. True enough, Vance. But when some bimbo actress or pompous best-selling author throws the microphone in the garbage on the way out, it generally doesn't damage the foreign policy of the United States.

Which is why one would have expected some adult supervision from CBS management.

Are you really so naive to believe something as inconsequential as this does damage to foreign policy? Get real and look at the European tabloids. I agree with Vance, there are other less sensationalized venues Sarkozy could have chosen to be interviewed.

Maybe heck of a job well done for both of them.
