Carter Explains the Problem

Carter's handwritten note on Carter Presidential Center letterhead stationery reads:

"1/26/07
To Rabbi Marvin Hier:

I don't believe that Simon Wiesenthal would have resorted to falsehood and slander to raise funds.

Sincerely,
Jimmy Carter"

I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief now that we know that the problem is not that Jimmy is a cracker antisemite but that Rabbi Hier is only in it for the money.

This is such a stupid and unwise thing to say that it either means that Jimmy Carter no longer has full control over his mind or that this was not written by him. I'm not saying he might now think it, but noone in his position would actually put it in writing.

  2. What, you never got so frustrated and annoyed that you ran your mouth and said what you actually thought?

  3. Also Jimmy-boy is 82 years old now. He is probably a lot crankier than he was when he was getting all that mileage out of the fake smile.

  4. The reason one is surprised that Carter would say something so indefensibly antisemitic is that one hopes that it isn't true. But it is. It isn't just a political charge to say he is an antisemite.

Nixon saved Israel from destruction and let Henry Kissinger run his foreign policy for him. But we have it one tape that he was a raving antisemite. The reason we don't see it is that they all but always know better than to say it in public.
